Counseling Services

I am currently offering individual therapy services via telehealth for adults and older teens who struggle with the following concerns:

  • Do you feel like you’ve lost interest in things you once loved doing? Or maybe you feel “unmotivated” because you’re too tired to get anything done. Depression, while common, can negatively impact how you feel, think, and act. Therapy can help you navigate these feelings and learn to honor them while not letting them take control over your life.

  • Anxiety is our bodies’ natural response to stress. While there is such a thing as good anxiety that helps alert us to potential danger, there are times when our anxiety can interfere with our daily lives. Therapy can help you explore the underlying causes of your anxiety and develop skills to cope with it in a healthy way.

  • Unfortunately, most people at some point in their lives experience some form of trauma, whether through a big, dangerous event; ongoing abuse; or even seemingly smaller, everyday situations. Whatever your experience, know that trauma is not about what happened, but rather our body and mind’s response to what happened. Through therapy, you can create a new relationship with what happened and not just survive it, but thrive in spite of it.

  • Sometimes experiences with trauma can lead to severe, long-term symptoms, including frequent flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, or nightmares related to the event. This can drastically impact our quality of life and even lead to other co-occurring issues, such as addiction, severe depression, or low self-worth. In therapy, I will strive to establish a sense of safety and work at your pace so that you may be able to move toward healing.

  • Perhaps you have developed an unhealthy relationship with alcohol or another substance or behavior. While this can feel like an effective in-the-moment solution, addiction is progressive and often leads to more suffering. Working with a therapist can help you begin or maintain a life of recovery.

  • Maybe you are going through a big change in your life or are struggling with some everyday stressors. Even events that can be considered happy can bring about stress. In therapy, we can process some of these changes and stressors and make meaning of them so that you are able to navigate them in a healthy and fruitful way.

  • Identity is an important part of self-exploration. Whether you are still questioning or exploring your identity, preparing to come out to others, or living out and proud, we unfortunately live in a world that is not always accepting of what it means to live authentically. Working with a therapist who is accepting of every gender, orientation, and identity is essential for finding your genuine self and for healing some of the potential emotional wounds gained along the journey.

  • Do you struggle with liking yourself—or just being kind to yourself? Often how we perceive ourselves can affect how we interact with the world. Through therapy, you can find the source of your inner critic and learn how you are someone of value who deserves to live a fulfilling life.

I also offer group D&D group therapy separately for teens 16-18 and for adults. Please visit my groups page to learn more about the group and for information about how to sign up!

My Approach

I offer an eclectic approach that can differ from client to client depending on their personal needs. This will often include some combination of different evidence-based practices, including but not limited to

  • A strengths-based approach to psychotherapy focuses on one’s inner strengths and resourcefulness, rather than one’s flaws or shortcomings. This approach can help foster resilience and move toward a more positive outlook of yourself and the world.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, is a common type of therapy that considers the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Through CBT, you can learn to begin identifying those core beliefs and thought processes that are not serving you, which in turn helps you change your perspective and manage your feelings in a healthier way.

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy prioritizes emotion and emotional regulation and their connection with human needs. By honoring and experiencing your emotions—especially the difficult ones—you can change how you relate to your own internal experiences as well as with your relationships with others.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) focuses on our different inner parts and the roles they play in our lives, such as our “inner critic” or our “inner child.” By learning how to access these parts, you can begin to heal those parts that have been wounded and establish an internal balance.

  • Motivational Interviewing is designed to empower you to make the changes YOU want to make in your life. We will collaboratively explore your reasons for change and where you might be feeling stuck in your process.

  • Geek Therapy looks to integrate geek/nerd culture and popular media into therapeutic practice. With Geek Therapy, you can begin to process and gain a new understanding of your experiences through your favorite nerdy content.

  • When looking at our health from a holistic perspective, it’s so important to consider the body-mind connection, or the concept that our thoughts, feelings, and viewpoints can impact our biological functioning and vice versa. Movement can help make positive changes in our brains, which can promote emotional healing.
